EVICTED

"EVICTED" was a very valuable and instructive book that I read last year. This book is about the fate of several poor families in Milwaukee, USA. Matthew Desmond follows the path of these people through sociological work. The problem is about what happened to his own parents a few years ago. One of the most instructive and salient points in this book for me was that people who become poor, gradually become incapable of getting rid of it, and poverty traps them so much that have a very strong will to get rid of it. They even need a miracle. These days, when I see and hear about the impoverishment of the middle class of my society in Iran and other countries (The country I was born and grow up in), I think more about this book's points and I am worried about people.

Another important point that Matthew tells us is that poverty is contagious. He says "Eviction is contagious because if someone is evicted then they move in with someone else they can also get that person evicted due to their previous debt. This shows that it can pass from one person to another and basically becomes a cycle of eviction. This is how it acts as a common cold."
